kolam (Tamil) / muggu (Telugu) / rangoli (north India) — drawn at dawn on the threshold using rice flour. meant to feed ants and small creatures. a form of daily mathematics: the pattern must return to where it started, cross every line exactly right, and stay continuous. ephemeral by design — the morning's work is washed away by evening feet.
