tanpura

a drone for practice ยท samvadi on the corners
The tanpura (or tambura) is a drone instrument that anchors Indian classical music. A vocalist tunes to it; the performance unfolds on top of it. Traditionally 4 strings: Pa (5th) ยท Sa (tonic upper) ยท Sa ยท Sa (tonic lower). This is a generated synth approximation โ€” a real tanpura has the magic of jawari (bridge buzz) that software cannot fake. Use it for morning riyaaz, meditation, or just to put the world in key.
Sa = 220 Hz A3
1.6 s/string

how to use it

For singing: find your Sa (usually C to E for men, G to A for women). Play and sing aa or saa matching the drone.
For ragas: most use Pa as the samvadi (1st string). Some ragas use Ma: Malkauns, Bhairavi variations.
For meditation: leave it running โ€” keep volume low, close your eyes, settle in the harmonic field.
